We will explore the concept of community as a general pattern of exchange and association between individuals and their environment, considering as opposed poles society vs community, on which the main variable along the gradient is just about quantity/quality of exchanges. For example, in a big city under general current social patterns is possible to exchange many goods and services maintaining anonymity by using money as a common agreement, so only one type of transaction is needed and in contrast with a small village, it might be possible to exchange goods and services bypassing the money transaction because there are many other transactions of information (like name, address, reputation etc.) that removes the anonymity and provides other means of trust. Both cases have their own advantages and disadvantages in relation to freedoms, costs, anonymity etc.
